Meghalaya Tourism Policy 2023:
The new policy emphasizes on public-private partnerships and
collaboration between the government and the private sector to
drive tourism development, which includes joint initiatives
for infrastructure development, marketing campaigns, and
investment in tourism-related projects.
Meghalaya Homestay Scheme:
The Tourism department to allocate up to Rs 10 lakh for
promoting homestays in the state. 35% front-end subsidy to be
given to those who wish to start homestays. Up to 70% of the
financing to be done for rural areas. A 70% subsidy amounting
to ₹ 7 lakh is allocated for construction of homestays. 235
homestays have been sanctioned under the scheme. The
construction of 1,000 homestays for 2023-24 and 5,000
homestays for 2023-28 are targeted. This intervention to
create 10,000 rooms and generate 25,000 job opportunities.
Luxury Tourism Vehicle Scheme:
An amount of Rs. 20 crores allocated for the Luxury Tourism
Vehicle Scheme. It will create employment opportunities and
enhance overall experience for tourists. 50% subsidy of about
₹ 10 lakh allocated to the selected societies and
entrepreneurs. Already 50 vehicles 19 have been sanctioned and
another 150 vehicles to be sanctioned by 2024.
Upcoming Meghalaya Industrial and Investment Promotion
Policy, 2023:
Provides incentives and subsidies for industrial and
investment promotion with special focus on some of the
sub-sectors.
