GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

Policy Support

  • Upcoming Meghalaya Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy, 2023:

    • Provides incentives and subsidies for industrial and investment promotion with special focus on thrust sectors.

  • Integrated Scheme for Development of Eri Silk Industry under Aspirational District at Ri Bhoi:

    • Assistance is provided to farmers for raising of plantations, construction of rearing house and establishment of cocoon bank.

  • Silk Samagra (Phase 1 & 2):

    • The program aims to strengthen the entire silk value chain, from silkworm rearing to silk production and marketing.

Infrastructure

  • Apparels & Garment Making Center under the NERTPS (Northeast Region Textile Promotion Scheme has been set up in Hatisil, Ampati, South West Garo Hills with a budget of ₹ 1426.15 Lakhs.
  • Setting up of Integrated Textile Tourism Complex at Nongpoh.

Financial and other support

  • State Award for Handicraft Artisans to recognize the outstanding achievements of the master craftsmen.
  • ‘Shken’ is a joint initiative by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce (DCIC), Government of Meghalaya and the Department of Design, IIT Guwahati to promote the local craftsmen.
  • State Award for Handicraft Artisans to recognize the outstanding achievements of the craftsmen.

Skill Upgradation

  • Training facilities are being provided to handloom weavers in clusters under the scheme of Silk Weaving Technology Programme.
  • A program on cluster-based skill development and building of common facility centers targeting 10,000 weavers is being implemented.
  • A similar program to benefit 5,000 craftsmen in the handicraft and bamboo clusters is being implemented.
